Long-distance belt transport

The continuous transport of raw materials in surface mines is made up of a system of interconnected belt conveyors, which ensure the transport of mined material from the mining area to the place of processing or. temporary storage. The transport capacity usually reaches up to 5000 m3/hour with standard widths of the transport belt from 1200 to 2400 mm. Individual conveyors are up to 1000 m long.

To achieve the required transport performance of the conveyor, the power from the electromechanical drive is transferred to one or more drive drums, which ensure the conveyor belt’s own movement. The drives are located at the drive station of the belt conveyor, in the case of longer conveyors one of the drives is also located at the return station, which also has a favorable effect on the distribution of tension in the rubber belt.

Transfers of belt conveyors

The process of mining in surface mines requires the occasional relocation of technological units. A specific requirement is the relocation of mine belt conveyors, where it is necessary to use additional mechanization. In the case of middle parts of belt conveyors and lighter types of return stations, the partially dismantled sections can be moved by dragging them over the prepared terrain using, for example, bulldozers. Heavy-duty power stations can be moved without the need for disassembly using heavy-duty transport trucks or hydraulic walking units.

Reduction of lumpiness

The uniform performance and reliability of long-distance belt transport depends, among other things, on the size of the transported pieces of material. In the case of coal mining or overburden with shovel excavators with a large bucket volume (or bucket for wheel excavators), it is necessary to adjust the unit size before loading the material onto the conveyor. For these purposes, crushers are used in surface mines. The design of the crusher is based on the purpose of use, the characteristics of the crushed material, the required performance, the size of the input and output grain. Due to the high transport performance of long-distance belt transport, toothed double-roller crushers have proven themselves for the primary crushing of coal and especially overburden rocks, which have good permeability even for materials with a proportion of hard reams and are resistant to sticking.

Wheel and bucket excavators are used to disconnect and load rocks in a continuous mining process. The technological system of mining and the method of work of wheeled excavators with a continuous work cycle is given by a series of work movements in the horizontal and vertical planes and their mutual combinations, which enables the cutting part of the disconnecting device (wheel) to penetrate the rock. In bucket excavators, the main working device is the bucket chain, which picks up chips in a horizontal or vertical direction (by moving the machine or lowering the bucket wire), or by a combination both movements.

Combined machines for servicing coal landfills, leveling and homogenizing dumps at mining sites, power plants or ports. The machine can also work with other types of loose materials. Typical performance during installation – 2500 t/h, when unloading from the landfill – 1500 t/h, other parameters based on the customer’s request. The machine consists of a chassis that runs on rails, between which long-distance belt transport of transported material is conducted, substructures , rotating superstructure, wheel boom with hydraulic lift, tubeless wheel, middle pylon, balancing boom, intermediate belt and hydraulically folding undercarriage.


The comprehensive solution of coal landfills of energy sources includes basic processes, i.e. establishment and collection of coal, as well as technological processes during the treatment and processing of coal at treatment plants, i.e. crushing, sorting, and last but not least the related technological passport transport. For larger volumes of stored material (hundreds of thousands of tons), landfills are usually designed as open, in addition to simple storage, the technological function of homogenization is possible in case of variable quality of raw material. From an operational point of view, stackers thus represent the last link of a technological unit and influence its overall performance and productivity.
